Privacy Policy
How Svelamo collects, uses and protects guest information at our Hobart hotel. Read what we keep, why we keep it and how to ask for a copy.
Who we are
Svelamo is a small hotel at 181 Elizabeth Street, Hobart TAS 7000. We run twelve suites and a chef's table, and we handle the guest details that come with both. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
For anything in this document, email svelamo@hotmail.com or ring +61 3 6214 9078 between 7am and 9pm. Post reaches us at the address above if you would rather write.
What we collect
Most of what we hold comes from you directly, either through the booking form or at the front desk.
- Name, email address and phone number
- Booking dates, room type and number of guests
- Dietary requirements and allergy notes passed to the kitchen
- Payment card details, handled by our payment provider rather than stored on our own systems
- Correspondence with reception, including emails and messages
- Closed circuit footage of the ground floor entrance, retained for 30 days
We do not buy mailing lists, and we do not collect information about your health, your religion or your politics.
Why we hold it
We need your booking details to give you a room and to take payment for it. We keep allergy notes because serving the wrong plate to the wrong person is a real risk, not a hypothetical one. We keep a copy of your correspondence so the next person on shift knows what was promised.
With your consent we send occasional emails about rates and events. Every one of those has an unsubscribe line at the bottom and a link that works.
Who else sees it
We share the minimum needed with the companies that keep the hotel running: our booking system, our payment processor, and the accountant who does our books. All of them are bound by contract to use the data only for the job we have hired them for.
We will hand information to police or a regulator if a lawful request arrives, and we will tell you when we are allowed to.
How long we keep it
Booking records stay for seven years because Australian tax law asks for it. Emails are cleared out every two years. Camera footage deletes itself after 30 days, and nobody watches it unless something has gone wrong.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it.
- Write to svelamo@hotmail.com and we will reply within 30 days
- Ask at reception if you are staying with us
- Complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if we get it wrong
If a request is refused, we will tell you which exemption applies rather than leaving you with a vague answer.
The other policies we keep
Three documents, all short, all written in the same plain language as this one.
